Alex's Pasta Bar in Ajijic, Lake Chapala
I have blogged about Alex’s Pasta Bar before but I thought, after Saturday night’s dinner there, it was worth blogging about again. We arrived with good friends for our 6:00 pm reservation and were met with Alex himself with a quizzical look on his face. I told him were here for our reservation and he excused himself to check the book. He came back and said it would be a couple of minutes before our table was ready and apologized for the delay. I remember when I made the reservation it was with someone I did not know and I did wonder if it had been properly recorded. Alex soon seated us a a lovely table for 4 and our favorite waiter greeted us by name and got our drink order at one. Alex came to the table and apologized again saying they did not have our reservation but we were very welcome and he would look after us. Which he certainly did. He spoke to our guests in French and looked after our every whim in record time. He has made some lovely additions to his already delicious menu and I enjoyed the Gazpacho very much. He also has added a wonderfully diverse cheese platter. Their Tuscan Bread Salad is a huge favorite as are his extensive list of anti-pastos. The sauces for the pastas are delicious and every kind of pasta is available. Alex also has a very nice list of Chef’s Specials and the Chicken Marsala is another favourite of mine. The tiramisu was mouth-watering. The excellent Pinot Grigio was nicely chilled and the Cabernet Sauvignon which we enjoyed with our cheese was also perfect. It was an excellent evening with good service, good food, good company and we all felt very well looked after. We were very grateful to Alex for handling the situation with such grace and aplomb. It was the first time our friends had been to Alex’s Pasta Bar but we feel sure they will return again and again as will we. Alex’s Pasta Bar is located at Juan Alvarez #71, the street going down from the carretera beside Farmacia Cristina. The phone number for reservations is (376) 766-2034 and reservations are a definite must. Alex’s has a facebook for more information. They are closed on Sundays. Buen provecho!
