An Expensive Time of Year in Ajijic, Lake Chapala

Well 2015 is upon us and along with that reality is the fact, that to obtain some sizable discounts, certain bills need to be paid.

These tax bills are Property Taxes, Water Service Fees and Vehicle Registrations.


The Property Taxes is a relatively straightforward undertaking.  You proceed to the Chapala City Hall with your last year’s property tax bill in hand.  You obtain a number and wait your turn.  Then you proceed to the cashier and pay your property taxes get your receipt and leave happy knowing you have actually accomplished something.

The hours are 9 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday. You can also  go to the website at www.chapala.gob.mx and follow the directions which are outlined on Page 6 of the January 10th, Guadalajara Reporter.

You can obtain a 15% discount of paid before February 28th and although the rates have jumped by 10 to 15 % the property taxes are still quite reasonable.

Many fraccionamentes have their own water service fees paid on site.  You also can get a 15% discount for paying annual water fees in full by February 28th.  The office hours are 9 am to 3 pm Monday to Frdiay.  The Chapala Simapa office has moved to Privado Zaragoza 12-A (the former CFE Office)  one block east of the Pemex Station.

Vehicle Registrations  can be paid in person at the Chapala State Tas Office at Degollado # 306 to obtain official receipt, vehicle registration card and 2015 stickers on the spot. The cashier requires onthe the license plate number to access account and documents.  Discounted cost is $405.00 pesos during January, $428.oo pesos in February, $452.00 pesos in March  with full $476.00 pesos kicking in April 1st.  Hours are 8:30 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday.
