Christmas (Navidad) 2017 in Ajijic, Lake Chapala

Christmas is a time of love, kindness, joy, family, good will and giving.

Some of us take these things for granted but they are very important every day of the year not just Christmas time.

I love the way Ellen Degeneres always ends every show with “Be kind to one another”.

There are many things wrong with the world at the moment and never has there been a better time not to fall into the divisive rhetoric being foisted upon us but to be kind and caring and try to get some semblance of civility back into our lives.

It is so easy to criticize people that are different from us or to judge without knowing the details of what one is going on with someone but a kind word or deed is a far superior approach to peace on earth and goodwill towards men.

Spending the afternoon drinking martinis and then attacking verbally someone who is minding their own business is not the definition of kindness.  Inviting them to throw your wine in their face or hit them does not promote the feeling of goodwill.

There is a lot of drinking this time of year and some people can handle it and clearly others cannot.

It is important to be careful as the alcohol spot checks are back in force until the New Year and no one wants to go to jail, have their car impounded or pay the exorbitant fine.

Don’t drink and drive, keep safe and be kind to one another.

This holiday is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ which is mostly forgotten.  There are many church services listed in the Guadalajara Reporter  where one can celebrate Christmas.

I hope everyone has a safe, happy holiday and a very Happy and Healthy New Year.

Feliz Navidad y Feliz Ano Nuevo a todos.
