There is a new piano bar in Ajijic which opened last fall. It is owned by Mark Rome who also owns the sister club, The Palm Cabaret and Bar in Puerto Vallarta.
We had heard some positive comments about it and decided to check it out. El Piano Rojo is located on Colon just south of 16th of Septiembre on the left hand side of the road and look for the step with the piano keyboard on it. The phone # for reservations is (376) 766-2876 which are recommended.
They have a website which is under construction but does have some information on it about current performers. The web site is: www.elpianorojo.com This is a bar only and there is no food except maybe popcorn. So we recommend you go to dinner first or, of course, eat at home.
We went to the 9:00 pm show after a very pleasant dinner at La Taverna on December 28th and saw Joanna and one song by Joelle Rabu who is an Edith Piaf performer. Joanna was lots of fun and not without talent. We all had a great time and laughed a lot.
It is largely a female impersonator show but Joelle Rabu is all female. She has a wonderful voice and her rendition of La Vie en Rose by Edith Piaf was spectacular.
The drinks were very reasonable and the service was friendly and although they had some sound difficulties in the first act Joanna handled it with aplomb along with her many costume changes.
It is quite a different situation for Ajijic and we will definitely go back. It is nice to go somewhere and be entertained cabaret style and laugh out loud.
Our party of 7 ranged in age from 20’s to 60’s and we all had fun.
There is a $100.00 peso cover charge which varies depending on the performer.
So grab a couple of friends and book yourself a table at El Piano Rojo and go out and enjoy yourselves.
