Feliz Navidad

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to all!

All preparations should be winding down. In no particular order the copper and silver should be polished and gleaming to delight holiday guests. The wine cellar should be full of interesting vintages and food should be purchased or on order for your holiday entertaining. Last minute shopping can certainly put a damper on your holiday spirit.

Rugs should be washed and furniture polished. Stockings should be hung and trees up and decorated. Ours is up but fading fast. In fact, I am not sure if it will last until Christmas Eve. We purchased it early as our daughter and her family came in November to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas with us as they could not come in December. Her husband is a chef.

Lights should be strung and all manner of Christmas decorations in place along with Nochebuenas (Poinsettias) inside and out.

Ovens should be cleaned to avoid the annual Christmas fire and family pets bathed and clipped.

Shopping should be done or at least made a serious dent in and cards or online greetings winging their way to happy recipients.

Hair and nail appointments should be booked and reservations made for those who are eating out for one of their holiday meals.

Wrapping paper and gift cards should be awaiting to be pressed into service and all forms of tips or alguinaldos for the staff for Christmas and holiday pay and regalitos (little presents) for the different services we enjoy such as water delivery, pool men, garbage pickup men etc. should be paid.

Christmas music should be found and ready to grace your Christmas entertaining and menus are starting to take shape.

All these are vital things to get done before the big day but also it is important to take a few minutes to think of what we might do for those not as lucky as we are.

Also it would be wonderful if we could hold on to this wonderful holiday feeling for longer than a week. This feeling of joy, wellbeing and good fortune is a feeling that is truly special and wouldn’t our lives be so much better if we all could feel this way all year long?

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all.
