Flavor of Ajijic, Lake Chapala

Sunday, August 16th there was a very successful event at the Cultural Center in Chapala.  (The old train station.)

Over 400 people attended from Guadalajara and the lakeside area for an afternoon tasting from five restaurants located in Ajijic, Lake Chapala.  We thought this was a great event to give newcomers a taste of the wonderful food available at these restaurants.

Also good wines from Casa Madero which is the oldest vinyard in Mexico and artisanal beer was available for sale and your $120.00 entrance fee bought you five different dishes from these 5 restaurants.

Chef/owner Ismat Jivani of Gossips served up his award winning chili.  We also love his gumbo, jambalaya and corn bread. Gossips is located on the CarreteraChapala – Jocotepec # 36  across from the Ajijic Clinic at Javiar Mina. For reservatoins call (376) 766-0217.

St. Remy du Lac served a delicious  Quiche Lorraine and I also love their short rubs. St. Remy du Lac is located on Emiliano Zapatos # 10 in Tres Leones Bedd and Breakfast. They have a traditional southern French menu and also have a very popular Sunday Brunch. For reservations call (376) 766-0607.

Alex Sgrol Chef/owner of Alex’s Pasta Bar served lobster and shrimp ravioli with a spear of asparagus.  We have enjoyed all of our meals at Alex’s which is a classic Italian menu and you can also buy pasta and sauces to go.  Alex’s Pasta Bar is on Juan Alvarez # 71 beside the old casino in the Ajijic Plaza beside Plaza Bugumbilias.  For reservations call (376) 766-2034

Oscar Nafarrate Chef/owner of El Jardin de Ninette served a savory torta which was wonderful.  El Jardin de Ninette has recently moved beside Donas Donuts on the Carretera Chapala – Jocotepec #52B across from Guadalajara Farmacia. Oscar boasts a French contemporary cusine menu.  For reservations call (376) 766-4905.

Chef/owner David Abadia from Tabarka (Gourmet and Organic Garden Spanish cuisine) served an octopus rice and vegetable paella type affair with a savory sauce. Tabarka is best know for its Monk Fish and has many other fish and seafood offereings. Tabarka is located on Ro Zula # 7 on the west end of town across from the old Billy Moon Estate.  For reserations call (376) 766-1588.

I am sure you will enjoy a lunch or dinner at any one of these fine restaurants.

Buen Provecho.
