La Una Reopens

A favorite restaurant of ours has reopened and we are thrilled. We went there with friends last night and as usual it was delicious.

La Una is located on Marcos Castellanos #9 in Ajijic right across from the main church, San Andres. The phone # for reservations is (376) 766-2072. The owners Doug and Susanna are very welcoming and the food is wonderful.

The wine list is also very good with our favorite being the Chardonnay from the oldest vineyard in Mexico – Casa Madero. They also have some very good reds from other excellent Mexican vineyards.

We also enjoy their very delicious dessert wine. Last night we had four different appetizers which we all shared. We had marinated olives, two different kinds of pate, Carpaccio (which was amazing) and their very excellent vegetable terrine with two savory sauces.

One of us had the duck breast in raspberry sauce (the owner used to grow raspberries in New Mexico), my husband had the shrimp, one had the seared tuna and I had the lamb chops which were cooked perfectly with a delightful mint sauce.

We sat outside in the beautiful garden and they had citronella candles everywhere in case of errant bugs.

The service is very good and attentive and we are always very well looked after and always welcomed personally by the owner.

We were very sad when La Una closed for a couple of months but were assured they had a lovely holiday and are happy to be reopened as are their customers.

Last night on the menu was also squab, sea bass, filet mignon and there is a very nice sirloin tips in a rich mushroom sauce.

They have a house salad, baby octopus and pork loin baked with brie as other appetizers.

Call La Una for a reservation soon. You will be very happy you did.

La Una is closed Tuesday but is also open for breakfast and lunch Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They only do breakfast and lunch on Sundays.

Buen Provecho!
