Las Playas Fish Market in Ajijic

There has always been fresh fish available in Ajijic but it could be a little difficult to find.

A man still comes to your door with fresh and frozen fish, shrimps and scallops.

For the last few months we have had Las Playas Fish Market in San Antonio Tlayacpan next to Superlake on the carretera. Phone # 766-0805.

We all know that we should have more fish in our diets especially for the Omega Three Fatty Acids which dramatically reduce ones risk of heart attack.

We do have a very good fish restaurant, La Tibarka, at the west end of Ajijic and their specialty is monk fish which is a very delicious meaty fish.

Now thanks to Las Playas Fish Market we have daily (except Sunday) access to fresh fish.

Las Playas Fish Market is open daily (except Sunday) from 9 to 5 p.m.

In stock is boneless filets of: Red Snapper, Flounder, Grouper, Sea Bass, Tuna, Cat Fish, Tilapia and Wild Salmon.

In the category of Sea Food there is: Shrimp, Shrimp – Cleaned, Shrimp – Cooked, Squid – Calamari, Octopus, Big Scallops, Sea Scallops, Clams, Oysters, Mussels and Crab Meat.

The owners are very helpful and are more than willing to help you with similar tasting substitutes if your desired fish is not available and they also will help you with the best way to prepare your selection.

Another plus is hat members of The Lake Chapala Society receive a 5% discount. You must have your membership card with you to receive this discount.

In the Weight Watchers Points Plus A-Z Food list all fish are 1 to 2 points making them good meal choice for both losing weight and health consideration. Shrimp, mussels, and calamari are also in the 2 point range.

All our doctors tell us we should eat less red meat but one can only eat so much chicken.

If, for example, one has fish or sea food one or twice a week, one will go a long way towards a healthier weight and a healthier life style.

Another bonus you will notice in eating more fish is an increase in energy which, hopefully, will get you out moving. A 30 – 40 minute walk three times a week is also very desirable for a overall healthier outlook mentally and physically.

If you are not used to cooking fish you will find it very simple and if you go to www.foodnetwork.com you will find many wonderful recipes to choose from and you soon will find your family’s favorites.

So drop in to La Playas Fish Market take your LCS membership card with you and get started on the road to a healthier diet and life style.

Buen Provecho
