Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Ajijic, Lake Chapala

This week Christ’s last days are reenacted in Holy Week events.

The Easter story will come to life during the tradional processions, pageants and religious observances taking place over the coming week in lakeside communities.  The Semana Santa (Holy Week) calendar and given in the March 19 issue of The Guadalajara Reporter on page 12 will guide you to activities scheduled in Chapala, San Antonio Tlayacapan and Ajijic.

Be aware that listed starting times are flexible and spectators often assemble an hour or more in advance to gain the best viewing spots.  Those attending are advised to wear light-weight clothing, hats and sturdy walking shoes, apply sun screen and carry wter.  Motorists can expect traffic back-ups when and where events are underway.

March 24 is Maundy Thursday.  March 25 Good Friday, March 26 Holy Saturday and March 27 Easter Sunday.

Activites are clearly laid out for all of the events for these days.  These events are also called The Passion Play which is something very worthwhile attending either in part or for the total event.
