Superlake Triumphs Again

Pancho, my friend, at Superlake has come up with another delicious idea. Homemade pizza that they cook for you on site or you can cook at home. There are several different varieties including Margarite, with fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and fresh basil. There is a three meat variation and a Hawaiian and one with sausage, red onion and black olives which is sort of a Mediterranean affair.

All the ingredients are very fresh and at the moment he is offering a two for one price of $79.00 pesos. I don’t know how long this offer will last but I urge you to take advantage of it as it is the best pizza we have had here in Ajijic, Lake Chapala. The last time Pancho came up with a great idea it was is in house bakery with many delicious varieties of fresh breads, and sweet buns. They have wonderful multi grain bread, several different types of rustic breads including a wonderful parmesan loaf and excellent ciabatta rolls and loaves. There is muesli bread and baguettes and also a sweet corn bread. These are only a few of the selections that I can remember. Everything is baked fresh daily except Sunday.

I love shopping at Superlake because in the 18 years that we have been here Pancho is always trying new and interesting ideas to make things better for us. If you tell him you want something he will get it for you.

In the early days Pancho would bring things out for us from Guadalajara like fresh basil, scallops for my Christmas dinner appetizer of Coquille St. Jacques, Twinings Earl Grey Decaf Tea, an iron and ironing boardand a kitchen garbage pail to name a few. He now gets wonderful squash for us once or twice a year. We are very excited about this because we miss root vegetables like squash, turnips, parsnips etc. The butternut squash that he gets is fabulous.

There are always exciting new products on the shelves like Jamaican Jerk Sauce, along with various hot sauces and of course the always famous Bone Sucking wing sauce.

Another fairly recent addition to his freezer is the meats from Costco. He has two wonderful pork loins one marinated and one in a dry rub. There is also rack of lamb and sometimes bonesless leg of lamb and whole beef tenderloins. Everything that we have tried albeit frozen has been wonderful and delicious and very tender.

Superlake has fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and an assortment of organic foods as well as produce from local farms.

People sometimes say that Superlake is expensive. If, however, you buy the local rather than imported brands his prices are very competitive.

I, for one, am happy to pay the few pesos more on some products to avoid spending the day in traffic in Guadalajara. By the time I get home the stress is not worth the “savings”.

Also try the Asian section. I am looking forward to seeing what Pancho comes up with next to delight us.

Buen Provecho!
