The Perfect Mattress

We have had our king size mattress for 12 years and, clearly it is time for a new one. I have back pain and now my husband does too.

We have been very happy with our orthopedic mattress we bought in Chalapa. Now it is time for a change and we are lucky enough to have several mattress stores right here in Ajijic, Lake Chapala. Two are in San Antonio Tlayacapan and, of course, there is Walmart but they do not sell king size. Durmimundo is across from Walmart and has a very good reputation. The problem is that there are so many mattresses to choose from now and so many places to buy them. Many people swear by Memory Foam, while others say it is too hot. You can also get 2 or 4 inch Memory Foam pads to go on your existing mattress. This concerns me as I wonder if our fitted bottom sheets would still fit.

Some people Serta is the way to go but again, others say “don’t go near Serta as they soon sag in the middle”.

Sealy and Beautyrest and good name brands and all stores have many, many brands for you to check out.

I like a softer mattress like the wonderful ones we had in England which you sunk into happily. I hear, however, that a firmer mattress is better for your back.

In my research I have found king size mattresses ranging in price from $10,000. to $16,000. Pesos.

My husband decided to have a look around too and came back with a mattress by the name of Fang which was on sale for $25,000. Pesos. He said of all the mattresses he tried it was truly magnificent.

I am a little loath to pay that much for a mattress and if anyone has any comments on what mattress they have been happy with, I would love to hear them.

I know a good mattress is very important as we spend so much of our life in bed but I am not sure how much sleep I would get spending that much money for a mattress which would then need to be replaced in 8-10 years.
