The Real Estate Market in Ajijic, Lake Chapala

This is my perspective having lived here for almost 22 years.

Everyone is concerned about the state of the real estate market in Ajijic, Lake Chapala.  There are many reasons for this.  For example the Canadian dollar is not doing well, the stock market is taking a beating in the first month of the year and the low oil prices just to name a few.

The Canadian dollar has gone up and down for as long as I can remember.  There was a glorious time when it was higher than the US dollar but I digress.  The stock market hs rebounded 400 points and, of course, oil prices being low is a double edged sword which can be argued from both sides as to the benefits.

What I am trying to say is the market is just fine for the simple reason all these things are cyclical and ebb and flow over the years.

People will always want to get out of the cold, leave high taxes behind, find a simpler more pleasant way of life or just try something new and perhaps more economical in their retirement.

Surprisingly, it is not only retirees who are coming to Ajijic, Lake Chapala but also families with young children.   When we first came here our children, then 10 and 12 where the only two blond, blue eyed children in the classroom of their bi-lingual school in Ajijic, Lake Chapala.  That is no longer the case and now there are many.

It is important to note that both of our children with their high school education here were able to get into both Canadian and American universities and colleges.

We have good years and not great years since we have been here but the only true dry spell was the 6 months after 9/11.

Other than that people are still buying and selling houses.  Some years the high season is the most lucrative but in other years summer has brought many buyers trying to escape the oppressive heat in the southern states.

We live in paradise with arguably the best climate in the world.  We will always have people coming for the warm climate and staying for the warm Mexican people who put family and faith above all else.

It sometimes may take a little longer to sell your property here but, rest assured there is a buyer for every house particularly here in Ajijic, Lake Chapala, because of everything we have to offer including what is now an outstanding infrastructure.

Rather than listening to some nebulous negatives listed to Norman Vincent Peale’s Power of Positive Thinking.

We continue to sell houses and so are the more reputable realtors in town.

Just think of how the flood gates will open if Donald Trump becomes the GOP nominee let alone president.
